What is EVO Locals Beta?

Good morning, gamers of the FGC. So, something flew past my eyesight as I was going nuts for the new information on Tekken 8, Virtua Fighter Crossroads, and the Samurai Outriders reveal as well. Apparently, EVO Locals Beta is the latest thing hitting the scene, where the mission is to support tournament organizers across the globe. Let’s keep it a buck: there is not enough locals happening, and most don’t have the budget to maintain the flow for the community. There are still a few, especially in NYC, but this is a good opportunity for anyone who wants to build up the tournaments.

The Mission in Full:

They have a full plan going on the main page where you can find the FGC Community Directory, Interactive Locals Map, and FGC Event Calendar. All of these things will gradually roll out this Fall.

Final Takeaway:

What can I say? It’s a step in a direction that could bring back more local FGC venues if done correctly. There is a lot of money involved, but there seems to be some backlash from some enthusiasts because of who now owns EVO. Since the corporate buyout of EVO by Saudi Arabia, whose entertainment company, Qiddiya City who acquired RTS who ran the tournament beforehand. Why the worry? It’s because Qiddiya City is a government-backed megaproject. This fuels the worry, as it gives full control of the premier gaming institution. With that, you get raised issues of ethics, censorship, and community displacement. I mean, you already see what happens when WWE is hosted in Saudi Arabia, with only the women covered up.

There are some concerns, but hopefully this will benefit those who want to organize something good for the fighting games community. We shall see how this turns out, but what say you out there? – Beast Out
