2XKO Throwing in the Towel

At this point, what has been going on in the gaming industry all this year? I am not surprised by this closure information on 2XKO. Riot Games has released a statement on the matter regarding that development will stop. What went wrong comes to mind first, but I only say this because I don’t assume, as I have my own theory on it.

Let’s be Clear on what’s going on:

The development may be done, but they seem to want to keep the engine going anyway. That being said, it feels like they’re going the route of Wayfinder, which could work out in the long run. I didn’t agree with Maximilian_Dood on how the Free-To-Play model could work with fighting games. Why I disagreed with his video is because of what Riot Games did with 2XKO, because the cost of the characters and the costumes was ridiculous. But this is the statement from Riot Games right now.

2XKO’s active development will conclude at the end of 2026. Over the last few months, we’ve been monitoring 2XKO’s trajectory closely, and what we’ve seen is painting a clear, consistent picture: while a lot of you jumped in to try the game and there’s an incredible community that plays every day, we haven’t seen enough players stick with the game to get to a path toward sustainability.”

Now again, the devs have made it clear that they are keeping the servers active and are making all the characters available. The last two champions to be added will be Lux and Samira, but after some final bug fixes, that is it.

Born with a Controller’s Final Take:

I asked our fellow writer ShadowJin to chime in on his thoughts. Since he is an avid player, this is what he said.

“I think it’s a shame that such a fun and creative game won’t be receiving anything content wise after this year. I thoroughly enjoy the game and I wished a lot more people got into it. It’s just extremely rough when it’s a free to play fighting game to keep it going without the proper support from the fans. The only main issue I had with the game was the online connection which made it hard to make content from matches.”

The League of Legends characters worked well in the fighting game space, but they just couldn’t pull their audience. There was a warning earlier this year of their throwing in the towel. Hopefully this route will bring in new fans and cause a second revival. What say you on this news for 2XKO? – Beast Out
