NetEase, what’s the problem, baby? Seriously, the gaming industry as a whole has been going through it as a crisis. This is after a big announcement of a new Yakuza-style game starring Ma Dong-seok in Gang of Dragon. It will pay homage to many of Ma Dong-seok’s action movies, where he is just a powerhouse.
Cutting the Funds to Nagoshi Studios:
Gang of Dragon was going to be Nagoshi Studios’ first game. Nagoshi founded the studio after parting ways with Ryu Ga Gotoku, the studio behind the Yakuza series, in 2022.

A bad time for Nagoshi Studios, with Gang of Dragon still without an initial release date. NetEase already stated that it will be cutting funding to Nagoshi in May. which is already a bad sign that we may not see their latest game.
The report explained that NetEase decided to cut funding to Nagoshi Studio, which was founded in 2021 by Yakuza franchise creator Toshihiro Nagoshi, after finding out the studio needed $44.4 million to complete the project. Bloomberg reported that Nagoshi Studio is trying to find new sponsors but hasn’t had any success so far. The report also added that the studio can continue the project on its own, but would be responsible for paying NetEase for any associated costs to hold onto the brand or assets.
