BLACK MYTH: Zhong Kui 15 Minute Gameplay Demo

Good morning, gamers. Happy Thursday. This beast is tired, but the news never stops because we have two events coming up soon. One is Gamescom, and the next is the Tokyo Game Show. Now we come to what is to be expected: a ROARING TSUNAMI of new trailers dropping. This is a 15-minute demo of Black Myth: Zhong Kui, which is the second installment of the Black Myth series. This was teased last year as the opening for GamesCom, and now we have full footage of the new story.

Black Myth Saga Continues

Keep in mind this is just a work-in-progress build running at 21:9 ratio. We get a glimpse at a bit of story and the combat, which is your standard dodge, parry, strike motion. I still can’t stand it when enemies eat through your slash attacks. I would like some stun animations when I am fighting one. However, then having to break off my attention to counter an attack from behind. Also, what makes this different from Wukong? Who is Zhong Kui?

There are no official historical records of Zhong Kui. According to legend, Zhong Kui was a top scholar in the Tang Dynasty imperial examinations. When he went to meet the emperor for his appointment, the emperor was repulsed by his fierce appearance with thick eyebrows, large eyes, and extremely ugly features, and expelled him from the golden hall. In his rage, Zhong Kui struck his head against the palace pillars and died. After his death, strange incidents continuously occurred in the court. The emperor dreamed of ghosts trying to capture him, and in his terror, the one who came to his rescue was none other than Zhong Kui. Thus, the emperor posthumously appointed Zhong Kui as the “Evil-Dispelling Judge,” entrusting him with the important task of “driving away ghosts and demons, dispelling evil spirits, and purifying demonic energy.”

Later, the King of Hell also appointed him as the “Great Marshal for Dispelling Evil and Pacifying Ghosts,” bestowed upon him a bronze sword, and commanded him to travel throughout the world to slay demons and eliminate evil. He also assigned two generals of injustice and grievance to assist him in eliminating demons. To this day, although the origins and life of Zhong Kui remain a mystery, through the creation and transmission of paintings, stories, novels, and operas over the ages, his heroic image as a ghost-catcher and evil-eliminator has lived on in the hearts of the common people, deeply integrated with folk beliefs and customs.

That was some deep lore-ish right there coming from the main website. These stories being turned into video games reminds of the romantization of Dynasty Warriors. The Black Myth series definitely caters to the eyes with beautiful graphics mixing both culture of the myth with the darkness as well. I am a sucker for Kung Fu Flicks and Wu Xia stories thanks to my buddy the C-Drama Diety.

BWAC Final Thoughts:

Makes me wonder since 2027 we should be seeing an announcement of next gen consoles, so could this be a next gen release title? Will there be easter eggs from the previous game? So much to consider and it entices my curiosity!

Just going to have to wait to see what develops with this new title as they promise to keep what gamers loved from WuKong. Expect a release on PC and all major consoles. Gamescom is happening on August 26th through the 30th. What do you expect to see during the event? – Beast Out
