After years of cryptic trailers and quiet anticipation, Capcom’s long-awaited sci-fi action title Pragmata is finally starting to feel real. With the Sketchbook Demo now live on Steam, players can get their first hands-on taste of the game ahead of its April 24, 2026 release.
I dove into the demo myself, and trust me, this is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing new IPs Capcom has delivered in years.
A Strange, Beautiful First Step

Right from the start, Pragmata wastes no time pulling you into its eerie atmosphere. The demo introduces us to the mysterious lunar city setting, blending futuristic technology with hauntingly empty environments that feel equal parts wonder and unease.
Gameplay feels deliberate and weighty, leaning into exploration, problem-solving, and cinematic storytelling rather than non-stop action. Movement has a smooth, grounded feel, and the visual presentation immediately stands out with crisp sci-fi aesthetics and striking art direction.
Without spoiling too much from my video impressions, Pragmata feels like a game that wants you to think as much as it wants you to play.
Meet Hugh and Diana

At the core of the story are two characters:
- Hugh, a suited astronaut-like protagonist
- Diana, a mysterious young girl with abilities that hint at something far greater
Their dynamic is central to the experience, and even in this short demo, you can sense Capcom setting up a deeper emotional narrative beneath all the sci-fi spectacle.
The demo includes a few surprises and secrets designed to reward repeat playthroughs, which is always a nice touch for early testers.

Capcom also opened up pre-orders for Pragmata across all platforms, giving fans a few tempting incentives.

More Capcom Goodness From The Game Awards
Pragmata wasn’t the only headline-maker from Capcom at The Game Awards 2025. The showcase also delivered:
- The reveal of Mega Man: Dual Override (2027)
- New details on Resident Evil Requiem starring Leon S. Kennedy
- Nominations for Monster Hunter Wilds, Devil May Cry, and more
- A live performance from Evanescence promoting the Devil May Cry Netflix series
- A sneak peek at the upcoming Street Fighter live-action film
Capcom is clearly cooking on multiple fronts, and Pragmata is right at the center of it all.
Final Thoughts From My First Impressions
From my time with the demo, Pragmata feels less like a traditional action game and more like an atmospheric sci-fi adventure wrapped in mystery. It’s bold, unusual, and refreshingly different from Capcom’s usual lineup.
There are still plenty of questions, but that’s exactly what makes this project so exciting.
Pragmata launches on April 24, 2026, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
The future is nearer than we thought.
