Gears of War: E-Day Open Beta weekend was delightful and even with that much of a taste. It was an amazing experience with only a few minor net issues. This beta weekend had players go through two different modes with some beefy content. There is the PVP mode with both Conquest and TDM (Team Death Match). Then you had the Horde Siege mode that had 3 different styles to play with Blitz, Siege, and Horde. Teaming up with my fellow author of Born with a Controller Cherry Moon, we checked out all the game modes the beta had to offer. This will go further into detail from the video below, so please enjoy the read.
Gears of War E-Day PVP Experience:

All right, so ripping off the band-aid off rip by stating that PVP turns into a shotgun fest just like it always has been. The Gnasher is still one of the best weapons to use in both conquest and TDM. That is because of its one shot close counter attacks. Which you the Gear or Locust have to figure out movement to utilize this menace effectively. Learning how to wall bounce which is still a thing it seems. The devs have promised that wall bouncing will not be as it was in the old style games. But gamers have figured out an alternate way to perform such moves.
Pretty much it is not completely removed, but slowed down as you can juke quite easily in the game. At the end of the day, timing and movement will be key if you want to have a good time in the sweaty matches of PVP. But, I do agree with Cherry Moon as she stated that it is just one shotgun fest which takes the fun out of the game mode. It can get even worse when someone obtains the Incinerator Shotgun that shoots yellow acid. But that’s enough on PVP.
New and Improved Horde Siege:

If you do not like PVP then there is good new for you within the area of PVE. The new and improved Horde Siege mode offers so much fun. Depending on the modes you pick with Blitz, Siege, and Horde. What’s the Difference?
- Blitz: Shorter length missions
- Siege: Standard length missions
- Horde: Survive relentless waves of enemies
Each mode will have a level of difficulty starting with Rookie. This was the go to area to enhance your class and get weapon upgrades. yes, classes are a thing in Gears of War E-Day Horde Siege, because you will need certain advantages while fighting the locust. You have the Medic, Assault, Breacher, and Marksman. Cherry Moon chose the Assault Class while Beast took the role of Medic. With the assault class, players will have the ability to stun enemies with a Sonic Disruptor. As a medic I have Stim Vaporizer that heals and revives downed players.

As you play through the horde there are main objectives and side missions all to gain weapon parts and leveling up your skills to unlock more mods for your armor and guns. Incendiary round are the best unlocks for your guns that are compatible, but starting off the guns are a bit weak. You will have to control areas and or transport equipment through the open map. The end results is unlocking the extraction where you have to clear out an LZ for pick up. The new monster that is the most annoying thing in the game is the Bilefrog. This freaking mutated frog spits acid at you and I mean an hefty amount that eats at you over time. So far that was the only new thing shown in the beta outside of having a jump button now and running regular instead of the traditional crouch run. This PVE mode felt good and comfortable.
Final Thoughts:

This is just the first weekend of Gears of War: E-Day with the second happening on August 13th running the same length. So far, we are already sold on the full release being that this is a prequel to the start of the Locust invasion. I will practice my Gnasher handling to tackle PVP more, but so far my game mode will be the Horde Siege. However, we would like to hear from you. Did you enjoy the first weekend of the beta? What class did you pick? Let us know in the comments below and let’s discuss. – Beast Out –
