Sony Slapped with a Class Action lawsuit due to Tariffs and Price Hikes

Some things are going on in the gaming industry that finally has come to light. All the things with price raising because of tariffs and A.I. that consumers had to deal with. Right now, PlayStation Console gamers are filing a class action lawsuit against PlayStation since they are getting a Tariff refund with an interesting loophole.

Case File 1: Tariffs in Question

The low down is this, ever since Congress ordered a huge refund to companies affected by Taco’s tariffs, which also affected the consumer. Some are left wondering what about the refund to the people who paid for the tariff cost to companies? Coming from the Engadget website,

To understand this lawsuit, we have to go back to when President Trump imposed sweeping tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act in 2025. Around this time, Sony raised the prices of its PS5 in August 2025, citing a “challenging economic environment.” Months later, the US Supreme Court ruled in a 6-3 decision that Trump didn’t have the power to impose tariffs in this way, meaning the federal government had to refund affected companies. While certain companies are reporting that they’re already starting to get refunds, the class action lawsuit claimed that Sony decided to pass the increased import costs onto customers, while also being entitled to refunds, resulting in a “double recovery windfall.”

Oooh Sony, tsk tsk tsk. You did a bad thing there by capitalizing on the refund. Now, it is bad enough that the increase in systems after 5 years is already a big red flag. Since how it’s supposed to go down is consoles get cheaper through time, but seeing a PS5 Pro at $900 dollars and the previous models jumping to an extra hundred plus, is no bueno.

The Law is in your hands:

It is not just Sony, as both Nintendo and Amazon are facing similar suits. However, Nintendo has taken the extra step to go after the US Government for these unlawful tariffs. The bottom line is that it is in the industry’s best interest to work with the people who were also affected by the Taco Man’s BS. What say you with all this going on? Right now, it is starting in California, but may spread across the whole US. I think it is in our best interest to act on this. As my buddy stated, you hit these companies in their wallet to make a point.
